This piece is based on a type of necklace called a "Collier d'esclavage" that was popular in the 18th Century.  These types of necklaces usually featured three cut out, and etched gold medallions with swags of gold chain linking them together.
My piece is created from brass, sterling silver and amethyst.  I etched the mnedallions from brass sheet and then sawed  out the shapes.  Sterling silver gallery wire is used to form the bezels surrounding the Amethyst cabochons.  The brass clasp was also hand formed.
